Petite biographie :

Né à Frankfurt, il fut introduit à la musique à un très jeune âge. Il avait seulement trois ans quand il commença à assister à des concerts classiques et pratiquer sur le piano familial. Il continua ensuitepar des cours de piano, mais son professeur abandonna tout effort d'enseigner la musique au jeune Hans après seulement deux semaines. Pourtant, dès l'âge de six ans, ce dernier savait qu'il voulait devenir un jour compositeur. Vingt ans après, après avoir poursuivi des études en Angleterre, il se joignit à "Air Edel" pour composer de petites trames publicitaires. C'est là qu'il fit la connaissance d'une personne qui devait plus tard être son billet d'entrée dans le vrai monde de la musique. Son nom était Stanley Myers. Hans Zimmer explique comment s'est effectué parla suite son tournant vers la musique synthétisée:

. Immédiatement après "World Apart", une de ses premières trames musicales pour film qu'il réalisa seul, Hans Zimmer se vu offir de façon totalement inattendue le contrat pour "Rain Man", par Barry Levinson.

Le film fut un grand succès, et Hans reçut alors sa première nomination pour un Oscar.

Depuis, Hans Zimmer est devenu un des compositeurs les plus convoités de trames musicales de films. Il a créé une sonorité bien à lui qui inspirent les autres compositeurs:

Hans a rafflé l'Oscar pour "The Lion King" en 1994. Et plus récemment le golden globe pour "Gladiator" de Ridley Scott .
