Petite biographie :

Né le 21 décembre 1948 dans le Tennessee, Samuel L. Jackson est diplômé d'art dramatique du Morehouse College d'Atlanta
et s'est forgé une solide expérience sur les planches. Il s'est ainsi produit au New York Shakespeare Festival, a partcipé à
de nombreux spectacles de la prestigieuse Negro Ensemble Company et a créé au Yale Rep deux célèbres pièces d'August
Wilson, "The Piano Lesson" et "Two Trains Running".

Si sa première apparition sur grand écran date de 1973 (Together for Days, de Michael Schultz), c'est surtout à Spike Lee qu'il
doit sa renommée. Choisi par le cinéaste pour School Daze et Do the right thing, il est consacré par Jungle fever. Par la
suite, les choses vont très vite, et on le retrouve dans Jeux de guerre mais surtout Pulp fiction, où son tandem de tueurs
avec John Travolta fait des étincelles et Une journée en enfer, sacré blockbuster international en 1995.  Ila ensuite tourné pour Quentin Tarantino dans Jackie Brown, puis, il a joué le rôle de Danny Roman dans le négociateur. On l'a ensuite retrouvé, auprés de George Clooney  dans Hors d'atteinte de Steven Soderbergh (pour un caméo), puis, dans The Red Violin, de François Girard, ensuite dans Deep Blue Sea, de Renny Harlin et surtout, dans le nouvel épisode de Star Wars.

Cette année il a retrouvé l'actrice-réalisatrice Kasi Lemmons (pour laquelle il avait tourné Le secret de bayou en 1997), pour son deuxième film en tant que réalisatrice : The caveman's Valentine, dans lequel il tient le rôle d'un musicien de jazz  schizophréne vivant dans une grotte à prximité de laquelle est commis un meurtre.
